Wyoming nurse pleads guilty in $6M healthcare fraud

A Wyoming nurse pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud in a $6.1 million healthcare scheme in Idaho.

Kristen Bolling, RN, 40, is a licensed nurse practitioner in Wyoming, Colorado and Washington. She was also licensed in Idaho at the time of the scheme. From April 2017 through October 2019, she conspired to commit healthcare fraud by accepting pre-filled medical orders from companies and signing without evaluating patients, according to an Oct. 23 Justice Department news release.

Ms. Bolling was recruited by multiple companies to sign fraudulent medical orders for durable medical equipment, including braces, and cancer genomic testing. She received roughly $15 to $30 per "consult" in kickbacks.

During the conspiracy, she received at least $204,000 for the fraudulent orders. The orders she signed amounted to over $6.1 million in fraudulent Medicare bills for medically unnecessary products.

Ms. Bolling is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 9 and faces up to 10 years in prison.
