St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn., has gone to court to remove a patient who refuses to leave the hospital, according to a Courthouse News report.
The patient was scheduled to be discharged Sept. 26, but has remained in her acute-level hospital bed. She made arrangements to have her hospital bed at home removed to complicate discharge, and has refused to be transferred to a skilled nursing facility, according to the report.
The patient has also allegedly become verbally and physically abusive to staff, and has injured at least one of the hospital's nurses. She also frequently calls the local police and other government agencies to complain about conditions at the hospital, according to the report.
The patient has been evaluated by a psychiatrist and has been deemed mentally capable. The hospital's suit seeks a court order to force the patient to comply with the discharge order, according to the report.
