Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.), ranking member on the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, has announced the Medicare Advantage Program Integrity Act to enhance program integrity and ensure accurate plan payments in the Medicare Advantage program.
The MAPI Act would ensure payments to private insurers more accurately reflect the health status of the enrollees, and would end private insurers' ability to hold Medicare pre-payments as investment income. The changes are expected to save $20 billion over 10 years, according to the report.
The legislation is based on recommendations from the Government Accountability Office and the Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.
