The Utah branch of Planned Parenthood filed an appeal Sunday of a judge's decision to uphold Gov. Gary Herbert's order to cut $275,000 in federal funds to the reproductive health group, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
On Dec. 22, U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups declined to stop the governor's August order to withhold federal funds from Planned Parenthood of Utah amid allegations the national group was profiting from the sale of fetal tissue, according to the report. Judge Waddoups said despite that the state branch did not violate any laws, Utah had the right to cut its contract with a group accused of wrongdoing, according to the report. Investigations of Planned Parenthood have not found illegal activity anywhere in the U.S.
Judge Waddoups' decision diverges from rulings in similar cases in Alabama, Arkansas and Louisiana.
Planned Parenthood of Utah filed the appeal with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, according to the report.
