A Minnesota physician is suing his former employer for refusing to accommodate his mental health conditions, according to WDIO.
Mark Ryden, MD, alleges that Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health-Lakeside Clinic knew about his worsening depression and ADD, but did not help him in any way and eventually fired him because of the conditions. Dr. Ryden worked at the clinic from 1998 until 2014. Dr. Ryden says he proposed a plan to help him catch up on backlogged work, but that his requests were not addressed.
The Minnesota Department of Human rights recently ruled that there was probable cause for claims of "disability discrimination, including failure to accommodate, and reprisal."
"Out of respect for the legal process, it is Essentia Health's policy not to comment on pending litigation," and Essentia Health representative told WDIO.
Dr. Ryden now practices at St. Luke's Laurentian Medical Clinic in Mountain Iron, Minnesota.
