A Kentucky physician was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in a $14 million fraud and kickback scheme.
Amr Mohamed, MD, 55, of Lexington, accepted kickbacks from telemedicine company RediDoc to order medically unnecessary equipment, creams and testing for more than 7,000 Medicare beneficiaries, according to a May 8 Justice Department news release.
Between March 2018 and April 2019, he received $261,054 in kickbacks from RediDoc and caused Medicare to pay more than $14 million for medically unnecessary items, according to the release.
Dr. Mohamed was also ordered to pay more than $14 million in restitution, according to the release.
