A Philadelphia EMT was stabbed by a patient while transporting them in an ambulance, NBC affiliate WCAU reported Oct. 17.
Around 6:13 a.m. Oct. 17, an ambulance responded to a call to pick up a person who had been stabbed. On the way to the hospital, the patient allegedly stabbed the 40-year-old medic twice — in the chest and hand — then jumped out of the ambulance and fled the scene, police said.
The medic, who has not been named, was taken to a nearby hospital and is in serious condition but expected to survive, according to the report. The investigation is ongoing.
This is the second incident in less than a week involving injury to a Philadelphia medical worker. Three nurses at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center were injured Oct. 11 after being struck by the driver of a vehicle who dropped off a gunshot victim outside the hospital's emergency department.
