Pennsylvania enacts law strengthening PBM oversight

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has signed legislation that increases oversight of pharmacy benefit managers.

The law aims to lower prescription drug costs by allowing the Pennsylvania Insurance Department to regulate PBM practices in the state, according to a July 17 news release from the governor's office.

On a national level, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating pharmacy benefit managers regarding alleged anticompetitive practices. The committee has called on leaders from three of the country's top PBMs to testify at a July 23 hearing.
