A 28-year-old patient died Sept. 20 after being found unconscious at a psychiatric hospital in New York City. The city's coroner's office has ruled the death as a homicide, according to The New York Times.
Police responded to an emergency call at Kingsboro Psychiatric Center around 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 20 after staff members found the patient unconscious. The medical examiner has not yet determined the patient's cause of death, though police officials noted he had trauma to his neck and surrounding areas.
The New York State Office of Mental Health, which operates the psychiatric hospital, said it is working closely with police on the investigation. A spokesperson for the agency declined the Times' request to comment on security and monitoring protocols at the facility, citing "ongoing investigation by law enforcement."
