A woman has accused Union County Hospital in Anna, Ill., of filing an erroneous collection lawsuit, which she said is without merit as she was making payments under a plan both parties previously agreed upon, reports Madison-St. Clair Record.
Diane Robertson filed suit May 4 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Professional Account Services, a collection agency contracted by Union County Hospital, alleging it violated the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
Ms. Robertson incurred a debt from the hospital on Nov. 20, 2014, which was later assigned to PAS for collection. In January 2015, Ms. Robertson said she and the hospital reached an agreement on a monthly payment plan to pay back her debt, which she began to fulfill. Ms. Robertson claims lawyers representing the hospital filed suit against her over the debt, according to court documents obtained by Madison-St. Clair Record.
Ms. Robertson seeks statutory damages and litigation costs.
