Oregon Governor Signs Malpractice Mediation Bill Into Law

Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has signed a bill that creates a new process in which patients and healthcare providers could enter into confidential mediation before going to court for alleged medical errors, according to an Oregonian report.

The governor signed the bill into law Monday and it became effective immediately.

Supporters of the law hope that a confidential mediation will prevent frivolous lawsuits from moving forward, according to the report.
