A physician-owned neurological practice in Watertown, N.Y., has agreed to pay $850,000 to resolve allegations it submitted improper claims to Medicare.
North Country Neurology admitted it improperly billed Medicare for Botox even though it had already been paid for by other insurers, according to an Aug. 3 U.S. Justice Department news release. The practice admitted that between March 2015 through February 2021, it improperly billed Medicare for Botox on 761 occasions.
The practice also admitted it submitted claims to Medicare that it improperly listed a physician as the rendering provider for services by a physician assistant when no physician was physically present in the office. Improper bills of this nature were submitted on 120 occasions between September 2015 and June 2019.
