New Mexico hospital settles billing fraud allegations

Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, N.M., agreed to pay $563,809 to resolve allegations that a physician employed by the facility fraudulently billed insurers, the U.S. Justice Department said July 21. 

Thes Justice Department said the hospital-employed physician, Arthur Caire, MD, billed government insurers for services he didn't provide or properly supervise from October 2013 to April 2020.

The hospital disclosed concerns about the billing practices of Arthur Caire, MD, in early 2020. The settlement resolves all instances of improper billing during Dr. Caire's employment, according to the news release.
