Missouri University Health Care, based in Columbia, Mo., has agreed to an $8 million settlement to resolve claims related to a May 2020 data breach that allegedly compromised the personal information of 3,000 patients, Top Class Actions reported Jan. 6.
The breach, which occurred between May 4-6, 2020, reportedly exposed sensitive data due to insufficient cybersecurity measures, according to the class-action lawsuit. While MU Health denies any wrongdoing, the settlement offers compensation for those affected.
Eligible individuals notified by MU Health about the breach can file claims for reimbursement of up to $150 for documented expenses or receive a $60 fixed payment if no losses were incurred. The deadline to submit claims, exclusions, or objections is Jan. 14, 2025, with final settlement approval expected Feb. 3, 2025.
