Montana's state legislature is steadily moving along a bill that aims to allow pharmacists more prescribing authority.
The legislation seeks to give pharmacists the power to prescribe some drugs and devices if the case is an emergency, doesn't require a new diagnosis or is minor and "generally self-limiting," according to the bill, which was introduced in early January and is awaiting its third reading.
Controlled substances will not be allowed, the bill states.
Some states, including Montana, already allow pharmacists the authority to write prescriptions; and nationwide, the FDA allows pharmacists to prescribe COVID-19 drug Paxlovid.
