Missouri providers will soon be prohibited from performing gender transition surgeries and prescribing drugs for gender-affirming care to minors.
Gov. Mike Parson signed a bill called the Missouri Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act on June 7 to outlaw these procedures. The law will also ban the state's Medicaid program from paying for gender-affirming care and incarcerated persons from receiving gender transition surgeries.
The law joins about 16 others that ban gender-affirming care for minors, according to The New York Times.
On the same day, Mr. Parson signed a bill barring transgender women from participating on women's sports teams in elementary, secondary and postsecondary schools.
Both will become effective Aug. 28.
