Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore., will have to pay $2.4 million to three plaintiffs who said a hospital anesthesiologist sexually abused and raped them, according to an Associated Press and The Dalles Chronicle report.
Three women will receive $900,000, $800,000 and $700,000 in compensatory damages, less than the $6 million each woman had sought, according to the report.
The lawsuit claimed MCMC and two hospital executives did not take action to prevent the sexual abuse, and a jury said the hospital must pay damages.
A lawyer for MCMC said there has not been a decision on a possible appeal, according to the report.
Frederick Field, MD, the anesthesiologist in question, was sentenced last year to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to molesting and raping sedated women, according to the report. Other women have reported abuse as well, but some have agreed to settlements while jury trials for others are still scheduled.
