Mecklenburg Medical Group dropped its lawsuit against Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health July 6, which it filed April 2 in an effort to sever ties with the dominant health system, according to The Charlotte Observer.
About 90 physicians in Mecklenburg Medical, which is the largest physicians practice operated by Atrium, sued to break free from Atrium's non-compete restrictions so they could operate independently.
In response to the lawsuit, Atrium said they would end employment agreements with the physicians Sept. 1.
The July 6 action by the medical group formally ended the litigation.
Over the last several months, Atrium and Mecklenburg Medical have been working to form a stand-alone practice, which will be named Tryon Medical Partners. Physicians will begin serving patients separately from Atrium Sept. 4.
