A Maryland mental health clinic owner pleaded guilty to a scheme to defraud Medicaid by paying Medicaid recipients to visit her clinic.
According to a July 13 news release from the Justice Department, Mboutchock Kabiwa owned Holy Health Care Services, a mental health services provider with locations in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Kabiwa and her co-conspirators paid cash bribes of $5 to $10 to Medicaid beneficiaries in exchange for visiting the clinic. According to the Justice Department, Ms. Kabiwa directed employees to designate these payments as transportation stipends.
The kickback scheme resulted in $3.3 million in fraudulent claims to Medicaid, according to the Justice Department.
Ms. Kabiwa faces up to 10 years in prison.
