The owner of Los Angeles-based Royal Medical Supply was sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in a fraud scheme that improperly billed Medicare over $4 million, according to the Department of Justice.
Valery Bogomolny was convicted of six counts of healthcare fraud in a trial by jury in November 2015. In addition to his time in prison, Mr. Bogomolny must also pay $1,266,860 in restitution to the federal government.
According to DOJ officials, Mr. Bogomolny used his medical supply company to improperly bill Medicaid $4 million for equipment that was medically unnecessary, not given to patients, or both from January 2006 to October 2009. Mr. Bogomolny also filed fake reports for home assessments that never occurred for patients that did not need equipment for physical assistance.
