Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell, Mont., has reached a $4.3 million settlement with patients and employees whose personal and protected health information was likely accessed during a cyberattack, SC Media reported Jan. 25.
The settlement stems from a Nov. 22, 2021, cyberattack that affected 213,543 individuals, according to the report.
It is the second time Logan Health — which rebranded from Kalispell Regional Healthcare in May 2021 — has settled a data breach suit in less than three years. In 2019, the six-hospital system reported a phishing attack that compromised the data of 130,000 patients, according to SC Media. Patients sued the hospital, leading to a $4.2 million settlement in December 2020.
The health system will have paid $8.5 million in data breach settlements in less than three years if the settlement is approved. A final hearing for the settlement proposal is set for March 9.
