The groundbreaking for Centegra Huntley (Ill.) Hospital, part of Crystal Lake, Ill.-based Centegra Health System, has been delayed as a result of an ongoing legal battle with regional competitors Advocate Health Care in Oak Brook, Ill., Sherman Health System in Elgin, Ill., and Mercy Health System in Janesville, Wis., according to a Courier-News report.
The lawsuit filed by the three health systems seeks to overturn a decision by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to issue a certificate of need to Centegra for the new hospital. A Nov. 12 court date has now been set, pushing back the groundbreaking that was originally scheduled for Oct. 23, according to the report.
Centegra General Counsel Aaron Shepley is confident the court will uphold the board's decision. "Courts are very reluctant to overturn what they have done," Mr. Shepley told the Courier-News. "[The board] made it absolutely clear that their decision was a sound one and that it will withstand the legal challenge."
The groundbreaking for the $233 million hospital has been tentatively scheduled for December 2013 or January 2014, according to the report.
