Fort Myers, Fla.-based Lee Memorial Health System is suing Florida Blue, claiming the health insurer underpaid the system's hospitals for emergency care, according to The News-Press.
The lawsuit alleges Florida Blue did not fully reimburse Lee Memorial for approximately $2.5 million in emergency room care provided to 150 patients who were covered by the insurer's Affordable Care Act exchange plans. The alleged underpayments occurred between 2014 and 2016, according to the report.
In a written statement to The News-Press, Lee Memorial spokeswoman Mary Briggs said, "We are working with Florida Blue to come to a mutually agreeable resolution."
A Florida Blue spokesman told The News-Press that the insurer doesn't comment on pending litigation.
