The House and Senate have reached a resolution aimed at solving the problems plaguing the Department of Veterans Affairs and its facilities across the country, according to a National Public Radio report.
Under the plan, lawmakers will authorize billions in emergency spending to allow the VA to lease more than 25 new clinics, hire more physicians and nurses and allow veterans to go outside of VA facilities for care when they are unable to get prompt appointments, according to the report.
The House and the Senate both passed legislation in June concerning VA healthcare, and the resolution was reached after more than six weeks of negotiations.
Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) announced the joint resolution. The two lawmakers said the plan will make the VA more accountable.
