Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill has denied a request filed by Boise, Idaho-based St. Luke's Health System to maintain its relationship with Saltzer Medical Group while it appeals the court's January decision ordering St. Luke's divesture of Saltzer Medical Group, according to an Idaho Press-Tribune report.
In January, Judge Winmill ruled St. Luke's 2012 acquisition of Saltzer Medical Group, one of the largest independent multispecialty groups in the state, would cause substantial anticompetitive effects. The decision was brought after Attorney General Lawrence Wasden and two of St. Luke's competitors — Saint Alphonsus Health System and Treasure Valley Hospital in Boise — challenged the hospital-physician transaction with an antitrust complaint.
On June 12, St. Luke's appealed the January decision. St. Luke's also filed a motion seeking to maintain its relationship with Saltzer Medical Group during the appeal process. The judge denied St. Luke's motion, and ordered the two organizations to separate, according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.
