Illinois physician sentenced to 8 years in prison for Medicaid fraud scheme

An Illinois physician was sentenced to eight years in prison for a more than $1.2 million Medicaid fraud scheme.

William McMiller, MD, 69, owned Dr. Bill’s Learning Center, which has two locations, one in Chicago and one in Oak Park, according to a June 13 news release from the Illinois attorney general's office. The centers offered tutoring services to children in addition to clinical therapy and psychiatric services.

Dr. McMiller's niece — Jonise Williams, 39, of Matteson, Ill. — handled billing for the centers, and together they submitted claims to the state's Medicaid program for medical services that were not provided.

A Cook County jury convicted Dr. McMiller in February on charges of theft of government property by deception, theft of government property by unauthorized control and vendor fraud, according to the release.

Ms. Williams previously pleaded guilty to vendor fraud and was sentenced to probation.
