Idaho Bill Would Require Disclosure of Hospital Prices for Up to 125 Procedures

An Idaho lawmaker has introduced a bill that would let consumers compare costs for hospitals' top 50 most common inpatient and outpatient procedures, according to an Idaho Press report.

Rep. Brandon Hixon introduced the bill Tuesday to the Idaho House Health and Welfare Committee.

The legislation calls for the creation of a consumer-friendly website and mobile application, through which people could compare costs for hospitals' 50 most common inpatient and outpatient procedures, along with the 25 most common surgical procedures. All of Idaho's hospitals and surgical centers would be required to submit this pricing information to the state on a quarterly basis.

The House Health & Welfare Committee agreed to introduce the measure, clearing the way for a full hearing.
