HCA Healthcare has been criticized for having only one oncologist on staff at its Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health operations.
Now, the people monitoring Mission Health since it was purchased by the Nashville, Tenn.-based giant are also feeling the heat from the state's attorney general, according to a June 23 Citizen Times report.
In a June 20 letter, the North Carolina attorney general's office reprimanded Gibbins Advisors, also based in Nashville, saying that the company "is not adequately monitoring HCA" and "is not adequately responding to patient complaints."
"The Attorney General has serious concerns about how closely Gibbins Advisors is monitoring HCA," the letter states.
Gibbins Advisors founder Ronald Winters said there is opportunity through its website for patients to contact Gibbins and that his company is willing to talk with the attorney general about the issue, according to the report.
Mission Health, purchased by HCA in 2019, operates eight hospitals in Western North Carolina.
