A former administrator at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, is facing charges of federal mail fraud after he stepped down 18 months ago during an FBI investigation, according to an Amarillo Globe-News report.
Robert Gregory Bruce allegedly stole more than $9,700 from UMC in 2011, according to information filed by federal prosecutors Monday. He was formerly UMC's vice president for corporate services.
Prosecutors claim Mr. Bruce created and submitted an invoice from a sham company for $9,700 in January 2011 to be paid by the hospital. UMC then allegedly prepared the check and sent it to a post office box Bruce allegedly controlled, according to the report.
UMC also released a statement Monday, saying results of the internal audit that resulted in Bruce's December 2011 resignation indicated he might have embezzled roughly $735,000 from the hospital throughout several years, according to the report.
