A former Pennsylvania pain management physician was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to pay more than $400,000 after pleading guilty to fraudulently billing Medicare and Medicaid.
John Keun Sang Lee, 80, allegedly submitted claims for steroid injections that were not medically necessary to Medicare and Medicaid at his pain management clinic between May 2016 and October 2020, according to a March 7 news release from the Justice Department.
In addition to reimbursing Medicare and Medicaid $417,960.51, he was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine, according to the release. He forfeited his Drug Enforcement Administration number and Pennsylvania state license to practice medicine prior to sentencing.
