Two former employees of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital have pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud the hospital.
Santo Saglimbeni, former vice president of facilities operations, and Emilio "Tony" Figueroa, former director of facilities operations, pleaded guilty to participating in a mail fraud conspiracy from June 2001 through June 2006.
Mr. Saglimbeni and Mr. Figueroa awarded contracts for hospital repairs, construction, asbestos abatement and other matters to a co-conspirator's company in exchange for cash, goods and services. The kickbacks rounded out to an estimated $2.3 million.
They were charged in a four-count indictment in June 2011 and convicted on the first two counts in February. They pleaded guilty to the other counts Tuesday. Each count of conspiracy carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
