Former CFO Sues Roseland Community Hospital Over Missing Pay

The former interim CFO of Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago has filed a lawsuit claiming the embattled hospital owes him almost $130,000 in unpaid salary, according to a report in Crain's Chicago Business.

The hospital has faced serious financial struggles recently and needed an advanced supplemental payment of more than $950,000 from the state of Illinois in June to keep its doors open. Less than a month after the cash influx, interim CFO Duane Fitch, who hadn't been paid since April, resigned, according to the report.

Tim Egan, hired as chief restructuring officer in July as a condition of the hospital receiving state funding and who now also serves as the hospital's president, seems ready to fight the case in court. The hospital's "legal representation is reviewing the case and will continue to review Fitch's contractual performance as we determine our response," Mr. Egan told Crain's Chicago Business.

Mr. Fitch is not the only former executive to sue the hospital. In September, three other hospital executives who were fired June 21 sued Roseland for severance pay and health insurance.
