The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals put a temporary injunction Wednesday on an order from Utah Gov. Gary Herbert (R) to cut federal funding to the state's branch of Planned Parenthood, according to The Hill.
The order was previously upheld by U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups and appealed Sunday by Planned Parenthood of Utah. This decision from the district court diverged from other court actions around the country that blocked efforts to defund Planned Parenthood following allegations the national group was profiting from the sale of fetal tissue. Investigations have not found illegal activity in Planned Parenthood proceedings.
Most other states that have tried to defund the organization tried to cut off Medicaid funds, such as in Louisiana and Alabama, according to the report. However, in Utah, Gov. Herbert aimed to cut funds on a smaller scale, specifically $275,000 of federal grants, according to the report.
