Dr. Larry Nassar, accused of abusing more than 100 women, to allegedly plead guilty to child pornography charges

Larry Nassar, DO, a former physician for the USA Gymnastics organization and at East Lansing-based Michigan State University, will allegedly plead guilty to federal child pornography charges Tuesday, according to ESPN.

Under the plea agreement, Dr. Nassar, 53, will plead guilty to counts of receiving child pornography and possession of child pornography between 2003 and 2016. He served as a national medical coordinator for the USA Gymnastics organization during that time. He faces up to 20 years in prison for each pornography charge, according to NPR.

The deal specifies Dr. Nassar will also plead guilty to counts relating to his attempt to destroy and conceal four computer hard drives, which officials testified to containing "approximately 37,000 images and videos of child pornography, with images of girls as young as 6 or 7 years of age engaging in sex acts," ESPN reports.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan will not prosecute him on charges of sexually exploiting and attempting to sexually exploit women or charges relating to "interstate/international travel with intent and engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places" under the deal, the NPR report states.

More than 100 women have filed complaints and civil lawsuits against Dr. Nassar, claiming he abused them "without gloves and for his own sexual gratification during medical treatments," according to ESPN.

Dr. Nassar reportedly signed the agreement June 23, but the deal has yet to be filed in court.

The deal will not affect charges of sexual abuse brought against Dr. Nassar by Michigan state. If convicted in those cases, he may receive a life sentence, according to NPR.
