The Department of Justice has announced a partnership between its Healthcare Fraud Unit's Corporate Strike Force and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act prosecutors in an effort to make sure U.S. healthcare companies abide by the law — even when doing business abroad, according to JD Supra.
The partnership will examine the relationships U.S. healthcare companies have with foreign governments, especially those in nations with government-supported healthcare systems, to ensure that these companies still follow U.S. regulations.
"Prosecutors from our Healthcare Fraud Unit's Corporate Strike Force will begin working hand in hand with FCPA prosecutors on select criminal investigations in the healthcare fraud space," said Sandra Moser, acting chief of DOJ's criminal fraud section. "This increased coordination will ensure that companies, their executives, employees, and agents are held to account for the payment of bribes and kickbacks to foreign and domestic officials and actors regardless of the market."
