Connecticut psychologist pleads guilty to $2.6M billing fraud

A Connecticut psychologist pleaded guilty to $2.6 million in billing fraud, the Justice Department said Dec. 13.

Michael Lonski, 71, pled guilty to healthcare fraud. The Greenwich, Conn. resident operated a psychology practice with another provider not named in the release.

According to the Justice Department, Dr. Lonski handled billing for the practice. In his guilty plea, he admitted to billing for services not rendered, including billing insurers for deceased patients, and for dates of service when he or his fellow provider were out of the country.

According to the Justice Department the fraudulent claims resulted in a loss of over $2.6 million, including a loss of $1.1 million to Connecticut Medicaid.

Dr. Lonski had previously faced accusations of healthcare fraud. He settled a lawsuit in 2002, paying $4 million in restitution.

Dr. Lonksi agreed to pay full restitution for the fraudulent claims as part of his guilty plea. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 10.
