CMS is gathering information for and seeking industry feedback on a project that would consolidate the audit and investigation services for Medicare and Medicaid integrity functions, creating new "Unified Program Integrity Contractors."
Under the project, Zone Program Integrity Contractors — established by CMS to combat Medicare fraud, waste and abuse in designated regions — would be folded into UPICs along with Medicare Administrative Contractors, which are private organizations that carry out the administrative responsibilities of Medicare Parts A and B.
Interested vendors have until Aug. 12 to respond to the request for information from HHS, CMS and the Center for Program Integrity regarding the project.
