Cardiologist pays $931K to settle lab test kickback allegations

Kentucky cardiologist Kishor Vora, MD, paid $931,500 to settle allegations he took kickbacks from a testing lab, the Justice Department said Jan. 4.

Between May 2012 and March 2013, Dr. Vora allegedly referred patients to the Renton, Wash.-based National Molecular Testing Corporation for Medicare-reimbursed genetic testing in exchange for illegal kickbacks, the Justice Department said. He also allegedly ordered and submitted medically unnecessary tests to the lab in exchange for illegal kickbacks.

Dr. Vora is the owner of Owensboro (Ky.) Heart and Vascular and Owensboro Medical Practice.
