Ambulance company owner sentenced to prison for fraud

An ambulance company owner was sentenced to 16 years in prison and ordered to pay $388,648 in restitution for his role in a Medicaid fraud scheme.

Dennis Anugwom, owner of Union Healthcare Services — operating as City EMS — was previously convicted of upcoding, unbundling and billing for services that were medically unnecessary or not conducted, according to an Aug. 2 Texas attorney general's office news release.

Mr. Anugwom also engaged in kickbacks and money laundering, the release said.
