Executives from Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care and Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem said they will continue to fight the federal and state agencies threatening to halt their proposed merger, according to the Chicago Tribune.
A federal appeals court recently overturned a lower court's decision to dismiss the request for an injunction against the health systems by the Federal Trade Commission and the state of Illinois. . The appeals court granted the FTC's request to temporarily halt the health systems' merger Oct. 31.
Representatives from both systems said in statement they will continue to fight for the merger, stating that a marriage between the two systems would lead to consumer savings and higher quality care, according to the article.
"We remain steadfast in our belief that bringing our organizations together is the right thing to do for consumers and therefore we are choosing to move forward with our case," representatives from the two health systems said in a statement. "We are confident that [Circuit Court] Judge Jorge Alonso made the right decision in our favor this past summer, reaffirming the competitive realities of the Chicago market. We look forward to a positive resolution — paving the way for an innovative care delivery model to further advance quality and lower costs."
