From Bon Secours Mercy Health suing Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia over alleged unpaid claims, to Adena Health System facing a proposed class-action overtime suit, here are nine hospital lawsuits and settlements Becker's has reported since Aug. 25:
1. The former chief nursing officer of St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, Calif., is suing the hospital, alleging her requests to install barriers meant to prevent suicides were dismissed by leaders.
2. Lompoc (Calif.) Valley Medical Center agreed to pay $5 million to settle allegations that it submitted false claims to Medi-Cal related to Medicaid Adult Expansion under the ACA.
3. The ex-CEO of a New Jersey hospital filed a lawsuit accusing his former employer of refusing to fully comply with its contractual obligations in the wake of his "malicious and unlawful" termination.
4. Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health System is accused in a federal proposed class-action lawsuit of failing to fully and properly pay employees overtime wages.
5. Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health alleged that UnitedHealthcare breached its confidentiality agreement with the system in the midst of contract negotiations. UnitedHealth hit back, alleging the health system "coordinated a media effort to put pressure" on the insurance giant.
6. Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health is suing Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia for $93 million, alleging the payer owes the health system millions in unpaid claims.
7. New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery lost a lawsuit against HHS in which the health system sought an additional $51.2 million from the COVID-19-related CARES Act.
8. Brewer, Maine-based Northern Light Health filed a court complaint against the city after portions of some of its facilities were ruled as no longer eligible for property tax exemption.
9. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health may be facing an uphill battle after an appeals court judge questioned the legitimacy of a recent $400 million win in an antitrust suit.
