Since March, the government has unsealed 58 cases filed under the qui tam, or whistle-blower, provision of the False Claims Act, according to a National Law Review report.
The report made the following findings regarding the recently unsealed claims cases:
- 75 percent of the whistle-blowers were current or former employees of the defendants named in the lawsuits

33 of the cases were filed in 2012 or later

The federal government intervened in 29 percent of the cases

25 percent of the cases contained claims brought under both the federal False Claims Act and similar state statutes

45 percent of the cases were filed against healthcare providers, including physical therapists and hospice providers

10 percent of the cases were filed against laboratory companies and diagnostic imaging companies
