Police arrested a dozen people Monday in Miami-Dade County for various medical fraud schemes, according to a local ABC News report.
Three employees of Coral Gables, Fla.-based Brothers Medical Center were arrested on charges of filing fraudulent insurance claims, grand theft and organized scheme to defraud, according to the report. These employees include Angel Amado Lazo, MD, Clara Serguera, a therapist, and Arlene Hernandez Garcia, a front desk clerk, according to the report.
They were caught after an undercover detective from the National Crime Bureau sought services at the clinic and his insurance was billed thousands of dollars despite that he never received treatment, according to the report.
An additional nine people were arrested on similar charges at a clinic in West Kendall, Fla., according to the report.
