Winchester, Va.-based Valley Health has laid off 33 employees and eliminated 25 vacant positions, according to a report by The Winchester Star.
Nine management positions were included in the layoffs, according to the report, and the cuts took place across the system with a minimal impact on nurses.
System President and CEO Mark Merrill pointed to decreasing patient volumes, state lawmakers' decision to not expand Medicaid and reimbursement cuts tied to healthcare reform, according to The Winchester Star.
