Nine full-time employees were recently laid off at Pekin (Ill.) Hospital, according to a Pekin Daily Times report.
The hospital cut hours for 22 other employees as well, and some of them no longer meet the 30-hour minimum for health insurance benefits, according to the report.
Declining Medicare and commercial payer reimbursements contributed to officials' decision to make the workforce reduction, the Pekin Daily Times reported.
Pekin Hospital previously had 830 workers.
