North Shore-LIJ Offers Buyouts to 2,000 Employees

North Shore-LIJ Health System, based in Great Lake, N.Y., has offered 2,000 employees early retirement packages, according to a Staten Island Advance report.

Physicians and bedside nurses, as well as those in senior management positions, were not offered the packages, according to the report. Employees who were offered the packages were nonunion, 62 years old or older and had at least one year of service in the system.

North Shore-LIJ has been affected by declining reimbursements and lower patient volumes and is therefore looking for cost savings, particularly in its workforce, according to the report.
