Interfaith Medical Center has received another shot of life, as the New York State Department of Health announced it will provide the bankrupt Brooklyn hospital a three-month reprieve with emergency funding, according to a Brooklyn Daily Eagle report.
Earlier this week, state and hospital officials said Interfaith would begin shutting down on Jan. 7, with a full closure coming on Jan. 26. Interfaith, which is losing millions of dollars every month, would have laid off more than 1,500 people.
However, the state contacted Interfaith officials before they submitted a closure plan to the bankruptcy judge Monday. New York will provide supplemental funding to Interfaith to maintain operations through March 7. Hospital executives, elected officials, labor unions and others involved with Interfaith's operations will now meet to map out a new plan, according to the report.
