Cooper University Health Care in Camden, N.J., is launching a "Veterans VIP Priority" program, which offers same-day primary care visits and healthcare navigators for veterans, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report.
Cooper officials cited the federal government's recent audit of the Veterans Health Administration, which found the average wait time for a primary care visit was 43 days. In New Jersey, veterans waited an average of nearly 25 days for a primary care appointment and nearly 47 days for specialty care, according to the report.
The program, slated to begin July 1, will also provide veterans with access to diagnostic and preventive healthcare screenings.
CUHC Chairman George E. Norcross III said the health system expects the Cooper Veterans VIP Priority program to become a model for providing care to veterans across the country, according to the report.
