150 lab workers to be hired at new $100M Cincinnati biotech center

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and research service provider CTI Clinical Trial and Consulting Services are building a joint-venture cell and gene therapy facility, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Dec. 2.

The $100 million project will include a 40,000-square-foot lab with 36 sterile clean rooms, according to the report. It will employ 150 lab workers when it opens in 2023.

"Medicine is rapidly evolving toward cell- and gene-based therapies," Steve Davis, MD, president and CEO of Cincinnati Children's, said in a statement, the Enquirer reported. "This joint venture will ensure that our community, region and the world have ready access to the most innovative and effective therapies."

The facility could support research on more than 30 clinical trials at once, the statement said. The site hasn't been chosen yet, but the new facility will be built in the Cincinnati area.
