Physicians from Orlando (Fla.) Health have been collaborating with their counterparts at a Puerto Rico hospital to advance robotic surgery on the island, Positively Osceola reported May 3.
The Florida physicians are helping launch the new surgery center at Dorado, Puerto Rico-based Doctors' Center Hospital Orlando Health, according to the story. The health system recently hosted a robotics symposium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to discuss advanced surgical techniques in specialties including bariatrics, gastroenterology and urology.
"In Puerto Rico, there have only been a few places that can perform this type of procedure," Doctors' Center Hospital CEO Juan Carlos Marcial told the news outlet. "By opening this new center in Dorado, it's going to increase the access to our patients and give them a high-quality service in a state-of-the-art facility."
